A necklift is not an alternative to face lift, as it only addresses the contour of the neck. It typically is a component of a full facelift. The procedure is less extensive than a facelift, resulting in a rapid recovery. It is ideally suited for the younger patient with localized fat deposits or early sagging of the neck. The procedure improves the contour of the neck by removing fatty tissue. The muscles may be tightened as well. Incisions which are made behind the ear and under the chin permit liposuction and any other tissue modifications to be performed. Patients are advised to wear a compression band postoperatively to minimize swelling. They may return to work after several days but strenuous activity and heavy lifting are not permitted for 4 weeks.
