Ear Pinning (Otoplasty)
Cosmetic surgery of the face also deals with issues other than those associated with aging. One procedure that shouldn't be overlooked is surgery performed to correct protruding "Dumbo" ears. The problem develops in early childhood and can effect psychological development. Girls frequently wear their hair down to cover their large ears. A surgical procedure known as otoplasty can improve this condition by reshaping the ears. An incision is placed behind the ear permitting access to the cartilage which is folded and stitched, providing a more natural contour, with less protrusion. A bandage is worn for several days after the surgery. The ears show immediate improvement and the swelling disappears after several weeks. |
